Announcement of Lone Finalist for Superintendent

The Merkel ISD Board of Trustees has named Dr. Nikki Moore as the district’s lone finalist for Superintendent.

Dr. Moore brings 18 years of experience in public education and currently serves as Superintendent of Irion County ISD, a position she has held since July 2023. She has previously served as both a middle school and elementary principal and is known for her strong instructional leadership and commitment to academic growth.

Dr. Moore holds both a Master’s and Doctorate in Educational Leadership, with research focused on rural education and teacher retention. She describes herself as a “boots-on-the-ground” leader who believes expectations begin with leadership and that every decision should center on students and their success. She values transparency, strong relationships, and meaningful community involvement.

Dr. Moore is married to a firefighter serving at Dyess Air Force Base. She has a daughter, Georgia, who is pursuing a degree in education and is married to a member of the USCG currently stationed in Florida. Dr. Moore looks forward to becoming part of the Merkel community and cheering on the Badgers in all they do.
