Here are some reminders as we start back to school...
A student has to be fever-free for 24 hours (below 100.0) without the use of fever reducing medications and also free from vomiting and diarrhea for 24 hours from the last episode. The 24-hour exclusion rule can be verified in the student handbook, which can be found on the Merkel ISD website.
Please do not send your child to school for the nurse to check temperature, or give your child fever-reducing medicine before school. This spreads germs to other children in the school and on school buses. If your child is sick, please keep him/her home!
Covid Guidance Effective March 2024
The state has updated Covid school exclusion criteria to align with other respiratory illnesses like the flu.
Students can return when fever free (less than 100.0) for 24 hours without use of fever reducing medicine.
We no longer have to report doctor diagnosed Covid cases to the health department.
